Fellowship Program

Equity Policy Research Fellowship

The Partnership’s Equity Policy Research Fellowship program is a 12-week intensive training and coaching program for existing undergraduate and graduate students intended to foster the next generation of housing policy leaders and scholars from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups (such as Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian/Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander) and individuals from lower-income backgrounds.

The Partnership provides fellows with training, mentoring, & networking opportunities, such as:

  • Education and hands-on experience in research, quantitative analysis and policy writing related to affordable housing.
  • Exposure to policy advocacy with state agencies and policymakers.
  • Networking opportunities with local organizations helping to build affordable housing.

Fellows will gain experience in

  • Contributing to a variety of affordable housing research projects through data analysis and visualizations, composing internal memos, drafting presentations, and potentially contributing to external reports.

  • Completing quantitative analysis tasks for ongoing projects within the Partnership, such as the Housing Needs Dashboard and the Affordable Housing Map & Benefits Calculator.

  • Conducting background research and collecting evidence on emerging topics in affordable housing.
  • Contributing to report development, including basic editing and formatting, creating data tables and figures, and compiling reference lists.

Eligibility

  • Currently enrolled as a senior in an undergraduate program at a college or university located in California, studying Public Policy, Planning, Political Science, Sociology, Economics, or a related field.

OR

  • Currently enrolled as a first, second, or third year in a graduate program at a college or university located in California, studying Public Policy, Planning, Political Science, Sociology, Economics, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in affordable housing and community development
  • Work or volunteer experience in research, academic, or non-profit organization
